Emilia Romagna
Teatro Fondazione

Project Leader
Bologna, Italy

Based in Modena since 1977, Emilia Romagna Teatro Fondazione (ERT) is recognised by the Italian Ministry of Culture as a ‘National Theatre’, with four production centres and active stages in the Emilia-Romagna region: Teatro Storchi and Teatro Passioni (Modena), Teatro Bonci (Cesena), and Arena del Sole (Bologna).

Attentive to new dramaturgy and innovative artistic languages, ERT focuses its activity on the production of plays directed by important Italian and international artists such as Giancarlo Cobelli, Pippo Delbono, Cesare Lievi, Thierry Salmon, Federico Tiezzi, Bob Wilson, Eimuntas Nekrošius, Alvis Hermanis, Claudio Longhi, and Antonio Latella. Its mission is to redefine the role of public theatre within local communities by seeking new forms of connection between theatre and city and new collective approaches to creativity.

Furthermore, ERT is intensively committed to the development of educational training programs through professional acting courses and organises the annual VIE Festival, thus supporting contemporary theatre, dance, and hybrid performing arts. Since 2007, ERT is one of the partners of PROSPERO, the European Theatre Network, which promotes intercultural dialogue between artists and operators through theatrical productions.
